At this same moment, the gallery is showcasing three fascinating shows that deal with topics as diverse as the Afro-diasporic experience, the evolution of photography, and the precarious equilibrium of nature.
Human / Nature
Encountering Ourselves in the Natural World
The exhibition “Human / Nature” will be on display from February 9, 2024, to May 18, 2024, and it will be a moving look at the complex bond between humans and the planet. This exhibition features the work of fourteen artists from around the world. The artists use a wide variety of media, such as sculptures, photographs, and immersive video installations, to tell a story that makes people think about how much of an influence humans have on the environment.
Luminous depictions of attractive landscapes and foliage are created by painters like David U̍zo̍chukwu and Lewis Miller, who honor the splendor of nature.e. On the other hand, Edward Burtynsky’s writings explore the ecological effects of industrialization, drawing attention to the ways in which human activity has altered various ecosystems.The exhibition delves at humankind’s relationship with nature in various ways, with works by Ori Gerscht providing explosive visual criticism and those by Yan Wang Preston contrasting metropolitan areas with verdant foliage adding depth to the investigation.

Futuristic Ancestry
Warping Matter and Space-time(s)
Fotografiska New York announces “Futuristic Ancestry,” a solo exhibition by the acclaimed French artist Josèfa Ntjam, which will be on display from February 2, 2024, through May 24, 2024. Using film, biomorphic sculptures, and photomontages, this kaleidoscope exhibition takes guests on a trip through Afro-diasporic history, racism, and revolution.
By utilizing alien biomorphic avatars, Josèfa Ntjam’s art defies categorization and delves into Afro-diasporic genealogy and history. “Matter Gone Wild,” the main feature, is a 19-minute film that provides a poetic examination of oppression and revolution from the perspective of three separate protagonists, each of whom lives in a surreal corner of an alternate universe.
Ntjam challenges dominant narratives about race, ethnicity, and place of origin through his multi-media practice. “Futuristic Ancestry” takes viewers on a surreal trip that weaves together themes of Mother Earth, personal narratives, and an Afro-futuristic outlook, challenging long-held beliefs along the way.
Frank Ockenfels 3
Introspection
From October 26, 2023, to March 9, 2024, “Introspection” will be showcasing Frank Ockenfels’s career in length. Ockenfels differs from the usual, capturing subjects with spontaneity and playfulness, and is famous for his humorous and experimental manner. The exhibition follows his development through different parts, with displays of Ockenfels’s Journals serving as connections. These journals were transforming documents that started as handwritten notes on polaroid images.
New and old photographs, as well as Ockenfels’s use of skateboards, newspapers, and scrap metal as canvases, are on display in the exhibition. Through the use of photography, painting, and collage, among other creative techniques, he reimagines conventional portraiture and turns it into an expression of his inner life.
Famed for his groundbreaking advertising campaigns for companies like Converse and Nike, as well as his directing work in music videos and commercials, Frank Ockenfels 3—who was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1960—has drawn praise for his psychologically candid images of famous people.
